Quiz 5.1:

Question:

Consider the exponential function \( Q=r \left ( s^t \right ) \). Letting \( q=\ln Q \), show that \( q \) is a linear function of \( t \) by writting it in the form \( q = b+mt \) .

4th Ed: #54
5th Ed: #81

Solution:

\( q= \ln Q = \ln \left ( rs^t \right ) \)
\( q = \ln r + \left ( \ln s \right )t \)
Since \( \ln r \) and \( \ln s \) are constants, we have a linear equation with \( b = \ln r \) and \( m = \ln s \).
